Woman who got onto school bus to urge her daughter to fight gets year in jail

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The sentence is nearly a year in jail for a mother who got on board a school bus and urged her daughter to fight another girl. The episode was captured on videotape.

Shayla Muldrow was convicted Tuesday in Tampa, Florida, of contributing to the delinquency of a minor -- and trespassing.

A surveillance camera on the bus showed her climbing aboard in March, and finding a girl who had allegedly slapped her 10-year-old daughter two days earlier. She then instructs her daughter to "handle it" -- and she even holds her daughter's backpack as the two girls fight.

The judge who sentenced her today says he struggled with the decision, because Muldrow is a single mom.

Prosecutors had wanted two years, while defense attorneys wanted probation.
